Our Commitment to the Silage Market

Dow has embarked since 2002 on a long-term programme working alongside European film converters, leading academics and other players in the bale silage market to:

  • research and understand the dynamics and new developments in the key European markets using baled silage;
  • understand what goes on inside the wrapped bale — what influences the process of fermentation, and how to minimise wastage;
  • improve the materials, techniques and technologies involved in bale silage;
  • communicate the findings and results to inform the farming community and all those involved in silage making.

Recent Achievements

Dow’s programme in the bale silage market has already obtained important achievements including:

  • funding of several research projects with leading universities and research institutes in UK and Sweden;
  • the development of a research-based Economic Benefit Tool, comparing for the first time the true costs and benefits of bale and clamp silage;
  • the publication of a series of Market Reports on Bale Silage looking at current practices, trends and future developments in bale silage in a number of European countries;
  • the publication of a number of practical guides designed to make sure you get the best results in bale silage production;
